The vocal artist Jullie Hjetland distinguishes herself through a rarely expressive voice and a deeply rooted connection to the Nordic vocal tradition. With a voice that moves effortlessly between the vulnerable and the otherworldly powerful, she creates a musical universe where past and future meet in a sensuous and charismatic expression. Using her voice and body as her primary instrument, she conveys music with an immediacy and honesty that break down barriers and invite the audience directly into the innermost core of her artistic space.
Jullie Hjetland holds a master’s degree in Nordic folk music from the University of Bergen, as well as a diploma from the Soloist Class in Contemporary Creative Art at the Danish National Academy of Music in Esbjerg. She has performed internationally and moves freely across genres—from experimental folk music and jazz to performing arts and electronic soundscapes.
She has received recognition from multiple quarters and has, among other honors, been nominated for the Danish Music Awards in both the jazz and folk categories. In 2018 and 2025, she was nominated for a Reumert Award, one of the most prestigious honors within Danish performing arts.
A central characteristic of Hjetland’s artistic practice is her curiosity and courage to take risks and break with expectations. She experiments with rarely heard instruments and electronic elements, creating a unique and innovative form of musical expression—raw, poetic, and profoundly present.
